Asian-American photographer Corky Lee died at age 73 from the coronavirus on January 27, 2021. He spent the last 5 decades documenting Asian communities in the US. Hundreds of people gathered in Manhattan’s Chinatown for his funeral procession on February 6 to pay tribute to him. Lee was remembered by his friends as a “legend of Chinatown,” an “unofficial historian” and a dedicated photojournalist committed to capturing the life, experience and struggles of the Asian-American communities.
