Description

China³ = Changnan x china (porcelain) x China (culture/state)

China³ is a special lecture series hosted by the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum in collaboration with the San Diego State University Chinese Cultural Center.  Lectures in this series will how export porcelain has figured into a global image of China from pre-modern times onwards, facilitating forms of cross-cultural exchange that were distinct from the cycles of colonialism and conquest that characterized relationships across large expanses of the globe from the 16th century until the mid-20th.

The third lecture in the series will explore pre- and early modern histories of transoceanic trade and cultural exchange, from the Ming dynasty to the early twentieth century (Republic of China).
