Artist and civil rights activist Doris Bittar will explore the migration of patterns and design motifs borne by goods traveling along the silk road, focusing on exchange between China and the Middle East. Bob Stein will moderate; Dr. Ladan Akbarnia will join as discussant.

Description

 

China³ is a special lecture series hosted by the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum in collaboration with the San Diego State University Chinese Cultural Center.  Lectures in this series will how export porcelain has figured into a global image of China from pre-modern times onwards, facilitating forms of cross-cultural exchange that were distinct from the cycles of colonialism and conquest that characterized relationships across large expanses of the globe from the 16th century until the mid-20th.
