Summary
Description
The San Diego Chinese Historical Museum is partnering with the SDSU Chinese Cultural Center to bring twice-monthly remote educational programming to our community via this series of talks and discussions. This series offers unique insights into Chinese history, Chinese culture, American history and lifeways of Chinese Americans, with a particular focus on objects represented in the Museum’s permanent collection.
On April 3, we will be joined by Betty Carr, who will speak about Tang dynasty ceramics. Her talk will cover this era's many different innovations, including Sancai (a lead-glazed tri-colored earthenware), underglaze painting, and the development of true porcelain. She will explain why Tang Dynasty achievements in craft and the large export business that flourished during this time were crucial to bringing Chinese ceramics to the forefront of the world stage. Andy Lu will provide commentary, showing items from his personal collection. The program will be moderated by Evelyn Lamden. |
