The San Diego Chinese Historical Museum is partnering with the SDSU Chinese Cultural Center to produce this monthly Zoom lecture series.

This talk will feature author, educator and cultural activist, Dr. Lee Su Kim. Dr. Kim was an Associate Professor at the School of Language Studies & Linguistics at the National University of Malaysia specializing in language, culture, and identity. Her Doctorate in Education explores complex language-identity linkages of English language speakers in Malaysia.  She is a sixth-generation Nyonya from Kuala Lumpur, with paternal and maternal links to the Peranakan communities in Malacca and Penang. Active in culture and heritage advocacy, she is a founding member and Founding President of the Peranakan Baba Nyonya Association of Kuala Lumpur & Selangor. 

Dr. Kim will be joined by Stephen J. Hall, who will serve as discussant.  Stephen J. Hall recently retired as Professor, Dean School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Head of the Centre for English Language Studies, Sunway University. His Doctorate analyzes English Language Teacher education in rural Malaysian settings. Stephen has managed Malaysian national education projects, been in business as a corporate trainer in Singapore, and trained teachers ASEAN-wide. Dr. Hall has lived and worked in Southeast Asia since 1991.
